One day, we were having night devotion in the house. We read from the book of Nehemiah where I needed to mention that Sabbath was a Saturday. I had barely said it when someone blurted out: “is Sabbath not on Sunday?”, another also said: “yes, Sabbath is Sunday”. I was about to explain when I got another objection: “if Sabbath was Saturday then we should go to Church on Saturdays and the ‘7th day Adventist’ should be the right ones.” After saying that, they had exhausted their points and awaited me to respond.
I explained:
1. Sabbath day was Saturday. Sunday is the Lord’s Day. Some call it Resurrection Day or the Christian Sabbath.
Mark 16:1: Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body.
2.Rev.1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet.
Just as the Holy Communion replaced the Passover, the Lord’s day replaced the Sabbath day. Jesus declared that He is the Lord of the Sabbath that means, the Lord’s day supersedes the Sabbath day.
Luk 6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
The next question, therefore, is that if observing services on Saturday as against Sunday is a sin. Aside from other doctrinal issues that may be associated with those who prefer to worship on Saturdays, there’s absolutely nothing wrong in worshipping on a Saturday or Friday or whichever day and the Bible established this.
Colossians 2:16: Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days
Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying going to Church on Sunday is not compulsory. What I am saying is that if a denomination chooses Saturday or Friday for worship, they are still Biblically right provided they aren’t filled with other heresies. I’m not sorry to say, some denominations who chooses other days of worship have other heretic issues. However, some of those who do services on Sunday also have heretic issues. What am trying to say is that, the day is not actually the problem.
Meanwhile, it is wise that a church worships on Sundays given the fact that Sunday is a work-free day in the world culture. I also learnt that some countries declared Friday as a work-free day while Sunday is a work full day. If a missionary is in such a place, it’s just wise he fixes Fridays for his services.

Thanks for this great piece sir, but have got few questions I would love you to clarify for more insight. From the old testament throughout the new testament, there are several Bible references that state and let us know that the seventh day which is the Sabbath day is the day of the Lord Exodus 20:8-11, even right from creation, the lord himself made the Sabbath day, rested, honored it and blessed it Gen 2:2-3, therefore commanded us to worship him on this day, the Sabbath. Jesus in his day rested and worship on the seventh day Luke 4: 16-30, 6:1-6. Even after his death his disciples worshiped and kept the Sabbath. What other New Testament evidence do we find that shows the seventh-day Sabbath remained sacred after the resurrection of Christ? See Acts 13:14, Acts 13:42; Acts 14:1; Acts 17:1-2; Acts 18:4
My question is where exactly did the Bible, God, or Jesus say Sunday which is the first day of the week, and the resurrection day has replaced the seventh day which was clearly stated as the Sabbath, the day of the Lord and the day God and Jesus rested?
And if we must say that Saturday which God initiated, blessed and hallowed had been replaced with Sunday, does it mean we have two sabbaths? The Sabbath of the Lord and the Sabbath of man.
Jesus said he’s the Lord of the Sabbath and he hasn’t come to abolish the law. Can he abolish the day and law he said he’s the Lord over?
Did Jesus change the Sabbath day?
According to Jesus, the Ten Commandments and all the moral principles in the Old Testament Scriptures are not subject to change; they are to continue to guide His followers:
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one title will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:17-19).
And lastly sir
Is there Biblical evidence for Sunday worship?
None of these verses suggest that the apostles intended to stop observing the seventh-day Sabbath and begin worshipping on Sunday. There is no New Testament evidence for a change of the Sabbath from Saturday, the seventh day of the week, to Sunday, the first day of the week. The change came after the days of Jesus and the apostles, so we must turn to history to see when and how this change came about.
I’m a Sunday worshiper but throughout my Bible search and going through history search have only got to know that Pope Constantine changed the Sabbath On March 7, A.D. 321, Constantine the Great issued the first civil Sunday law, compelling all the people in the Roman Empire, except farmers, to rest on Sunday. This, with five other civil laws decreed by Constantine concerning Sunday, set the legal precedent for all civil Sunday legislation from that time to the present but that doesn’t justify or erase the fact that the seventh day is the day of the lord and not Sunday. The shocking truth is that the Bible already forewarned that there will be an attempt to change the law and it shall be given to him for a particular time Daniel 7:25( for those that understand the book of Daniel and Revelation about the end time)
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In me,t you shall do no work. . . . For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it” (Exodus 20:8-11).
When God created our world, He set apart the seventh day as the “Sabbath of the Lord” by three divine acts (Genesis 2:1-3). God:
Rested on the seventh day from all His work.
Blessed the seventh day.
Sanctified it.
Again at Sinai, when He gave the Ten Commandments, God reiterated these same truths. He also made it clear that no human being should revise or edit the instruction from His holy lips. “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you” (Deuteronomy 4:2).
God Himself pledges not to alter His commands: “My covenant I will not break, nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips” (Psalm 89:34). The Bible is clear that God did not change the Sabbath from the seventh to the first day of the week.
Check the New Testament passages you posted. It is about the Jews and the Synagogue.
The Apostles took advantage of it because that was where they could preach to the Jews. It is just the wise thing to do just like I stated in the same post you commented upon. I will conduct services on Friday in the mosque if they would allow me.
Pls, read the post again to understand that “days of worship” is not such of a big deal.
Meanwhile, it is a good thing to be in the Spirit on the Lord’s day.
Rev 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
Thank you so much sister Lydia I believe you have done justice to this topic let he who has ear hear what the spirit is saying.
Sunday worship is the doctrine of man (Constantine of Roman Empire as prophecy by Daniel while in Babylon. It can’t be clearer than this. The Romans were pagan worshipers they worship the sun God, the also named all the days of the week after their gods and compare believers to worship on a Sunday. How long shall we believers continue to sleep, pastors are jumping up and down for an unknown god. God said my sabbath you shall keep forever through out all generations. Why have the believers fall so cheep to blend with the system of the Babylonians. Who has bewitched the church? Arise oh church of the most high and Christ shall give you light.
More Grace Sir
